The STITCH – Sustainability Through Innovation, Training, Creativity & STEAM Horizons project has officially launched. Co-funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ KA220 SCH programme, STITCH will run for 30 months (from October 1, 2025, to March 31, 2028) and aims to raise awareness among middle school students about the environmental impact of fashion, promoting sustainable practices through STEAM education.
STITCH combines innovation, creativity, and training to help young people develop digital, technological, and leadership skills, empowering them to become sustainability ambassadors in their schools and local communities.
The main goal of STITCH is to integrate sustainability into school curricula, helping students develop “green skills” and encouraging responsible behavior in fashion, such as recycling, reusing, and upcycling. Through STEAM-based activities, students participate in hands-on workshops and interdisciplinary projects, experimenting with innovative tools such as 3D printing, artificial intelligence, IoT, and smart textiles.
Teachers also receive dedicated training and resources to embed sustainability and STEAM into their teaching, enabling them to guide students effectively. The project fosters collaboration between schools, local communities, businesses, and sustainability experts, creating an international network for sharing knowledge and best practices.
The project is structured in three main phases. The first focuses on creating a teacher training hub, including case study collection, an online training lab, a digital toolkit, and webinars with experts. The second phase involves students participating in sustainable fashion workshops, upcycling projects, digital content creation, and prototyping activities. The final phase launches the “Sustainability Leaders” programme, selecting student ambassadors, developing their leadership skills, and supporting school and community projects, alongside family workshops.
STITCH will produce tangible educational tools and awareness resources. Expected outputs include manuals and toolkits for teachers, workshops and hands-on activities for students, digital content promoting sustainable fashion, and community projects led by student ambassadors. All materials will be available online, allowing the dissemination of best practices beyond the project partners.
The project is coordinated by the University of Palermo (Italy) and involves partners from Estonia, Spain, Turkey, Greece, Norway, and Italy, including schools, universities, and organizations focused on innovation and sustainability.
