From January 31 to February 2, 2026, Palermo hosted the first training activity for youth workers of the Dancing with STEAM project, organized by FICUS ETS in collaboration with the project coordinator CIE ESSEVÈSSE (France) and international partners. Funded by the Erasmus+ KA210 YOUTH program (Project Number: 2025-1-FR02-KA210-YOU-000349743), the project aims to integrate dance and theatre into STEAM education, offering young people across Europe more creative, inclusive, and engaging learning experiences.
During the Kick-off Meeting, FICUS ETS contributed to defining the initial plan, objectives, and upcoming activities, confirming its strategic role in the project’s implementation.
The study visit gave participants the opportunity to explore how art, science, and technology can interact to develop innovative learning approaches. Participants took part in practical sessions and workshops on STEAM concepts, transforming them into dance and theatre activities. Topics included creative physics, sensory chemistry, and living mathematics, all directly linked to movement, theatrical performance, and creativity.
The technological component was highlighted during the visit to the Fab Lab in Palermo, where participants experimented with robotics, 3D printing, and digital fabrication, seeing firsthand how technology can make STEAM concepts tangible and engaging. The experience at the University of Palermo allowed participants to explore scientific laboratories and practical applications of STEAM disciplines, providing direct insight into educational and professional opportunities in the field.
A central part of the visit was dedicated to practically translating STEAM concepts into dance and theatre, through collaborative workshops that prepared the ground for the second activity of the project, which will take place at the end of February 2026 in Marseille, focusing entirely on dance and theatre.
In addition to training, the study visit included moments of social and cultural exchange, such as group dinners and walks in Palermo’s historic center, strengthening group cohesion and creating a supportive environment for shared learning.
The Study Visit in Palermo represented a crucial first step of the Dancing with STEAM project, combining scientific learning, artistic expression, and technological innovation. Through this experience, FICUS ETS and the participants gained practical tools and creative ideas to apply STEAM methodologies in their work with young people, promoting inclusion, creativity, and critical thinking.
