
The first results of the Dancing with STEAM project are now available. This European initiative aims to make STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) more accessible, inclusive, and engaging for young people through creative, interdisciplinary, and participatory educational approaches.
The project’s first concrete output is a series of training modules focused on STEAM subjects, designed to support youth workers, educators, and trainers in engaging young people with scientific disciplines through dance, theatre, movement, and artistic expression as educational tools.
The modules have been developed within the framework of the Dancing with STEAM project, funded by the Erasmus+ KA210 YOUTH programme
(Project number: 2025-1-FR02-KA210-YOU-000349743).
The project is coordinated by CIE ESSEVÈSSE, a French non-profit organization, in collaboration with FICUS ETS, the Italian partner. Over the next 18 months, the partners will work together to develop innovative educational tools that place creativity, inclusion, and active youth participation at the core.
These modules represent the first output of Activity 1, the Study Visit held in Palermo, where youth workers from Marseille (France) and Palermo (Italy) met and worked together. The visit enabled an exchange of practices, skills, and methodologies on how to teach STEAM subjects in innovative ways, overcoming stereotypes and perceived barriers through the integration of performing arts, particularly dance and theatre.
The training modules
The developed modules address the different STEAM areas through an experiential, creative, and participatory approach:
- Module 1 – Introduction to STEM: mindsets and stereotypes
Helps participants understand the value of the STEAM approach, which integrates the Arts into STEM for a more creative and interdisciplinary methodology, while challenging common stereotypes related to scientific disciplines. - Module 2 – Creative Physics: experiencing force
Offers activities to explore and understand physics using simple, playful, and creative everyday tools. - Module 3 – Sensory Chemistry: matter in motion
Sparks curiosity through safe, sensory chemical reactions, helping participants understand states of matter and energy transformations, while connecting chemistry with movement and digital creativity. - Module 4 – Living Mathematics: patterns and geometry
Explores patterns and symmetry through hands-on activities that combine mathematics, movement, and technology, fostering a creative and integrated approach to mathematics. - Module 5 – Technology and computational thinking
Introduces algorithmic thinking and problem-solving through practical and creative activities that combine logic, teamwork, and digital tools.
