From Movement to Learning: The Modules Developed in Marseille

The project Dancing with STEAM (Project number: 2025-1-FR02-KA210-YOU-000349743), co-funded by the Erasmus+ KA210-YOU – Small-scale partnerships in youth programme, continues its journey with an important result: the development of five learning modules created during the study visit held in Marseille.

The study visit, hosted by the project coordinator Cie Essevesse, represented a key phase of the project, bringing together youth workers from Italy and France in an intensive training experience focused on the integration of performing arts and the STEAM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).

An Experiential Approach to STEAM

During the workshops, participants explored how scientific concepts can be transformed into accessible and engaging learning experiences through movement, theatre and embodied methodologies.

This approach made it possible to:

make abstract concepts visible and tangible
promote active and participatory learning
integrate cognitive, physical and relational dimensions
foster inclusive learning environments

Based on this hands-on experience, five learning modules were developed, translating the activities carried out during the study visit into practical and transferable educational resources.

The Learning Modules

The modules provide concrete tools for youth workers, educators and organisations working in non-formal education, supporting the integration of STEAM through creative and interdisciplinary methodologies.

Module 1 – Building Safety Through Movement
This module explores safety as both a physiological and relational condition, using movement-based activities to develop regulation and group synchrony.

Module 2 – The Body as Force
Participants explore key physics principles such as force, gravity and momentum through embodied experience and physical interaction.

Module 3 – Reactions in Motion
This module introduces chemistry concepts such as reactions and equilibrium by combining visual experiments and movement exploration.

Module 4 – Pattern, Symmetry & Fibonacci in Motion
Through spatial compositions and choreography, participants explore mathematical structures such as patterns, symmetry and Fibonacci sequences.

Module 5 – Rehearsing Responsibility
Inspired by Theatre of the Oppressed, this module focuses on ethics, systems thinking and responsibility in scientific and technological innovation.

From Practice to Transferability

The learning modules developed in Marseille demonstrate how performing arts can be used as a powerful tool to make STEAM education more accessible, inclusive and meaningful.
