FICUS ETS is pleased to announce the publication of the first official result of the Erasmus+ project STITCH – Sustainability Through Innovation, Training, Creativity & STEAM Horizons, a European initiative that brings together organisations, schools, universities, and experts from different countries with the shared goal of promoting sustainability in the fashion sector through education, creativity, and innovation.
This important milestone consists of a European collection of 35 best practices and 42 case studies focused on sustainable fashion, circular economy principles, and the application of STEAM methodologies (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) in educational settings.
The publication represents one of the first tangible outcomes of the project and provides a solid knowledge base that will guide the development of future STITCH educational resources for teachers, educators, and secondary schools across Europe.
A European Collection of Knowledge and Innovation
Over the past months, project partners have worked together to identify, analyse, and document innovative experiences from across Europe. The result is a comprehensive collection that offers a broad and diverse overview of how sustainability can be integrated into teaching and learning through practical, creative, and interdisciplinary activities.
The experiences included in the collection come from schools, universities, research centres, civil society organisations, companies, and community initiatives that are helping transform the fashion sector into a more sustainable and responsible industry.
Among the examples featured are upcycling and textile repair workshops, activities focused on innovative and bio-based materials, responsible consumption education initiatives, circular economy projects, creative design challenges, and numerous activities that use digital technologies and STEAM approaches to engage students in meaningful learning experiences.
Key Findings from the Analysis
The analysis of the best practices and case studies revealed several common elements that characterise the most effective initiatives.
Among the main themes identified are:
- The application of the 4Rs principles: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover;
- The growing use of STEAM methodologies to address sustainability challenges;
- The importance of hands-on and experiential learning;
- Collaboration between schools, local communities, and sector stakeholders;
- The use of digital tools and innovative technologies to support sustainability and learning.
Another particularly significant finding concerns the transferability of the initiatives analysed. Many of the activities can be replicated with limited resources and adapted to different educational contexts, providing teachers with practical tools to address complex topics such as sustainability, responsible consumption, and circular economy principles.
The Contribution of FICUS ETS
As a project partner, FICUS ETS actively contributed to the collection and analysis of practices by sharing experiences, methodologies, and expertise developed through its work in sustainability education, social innovation, and participatory learning approaches.
The work carried out within this activity confirms the importance of European cooperation in creating innovative and accessible educational resources capable of supporting teachers and students in addressing today’s and tomorrow’s environmental challenges.
Available Online
To ensure the widest possible dissemination of the results, the partnership has published:
- A comprehensive English version containing the full collection of best practices and case studies;
- Short versions translated into the partners’ national languages, making the content easily accessible to schools, teachers, and educators across Europe.

Looking Ahead
The collection of best practices and case studies represents only the first step in the STITCH journey.
In the coming months, the partnership will develop new educational resources, including a Teacher’s Manual, a Digital Toolkit, an Online Learning Platform, and additional activities aimed at teachers, students, and education professionals.
Through STITCH, we continue working towards a future where sustainability, creativity, innovation, and STEAM competences become an integral part of the educational experience of new generations.
