FICUS ETS is pleased to promote “From Awareness to Action: Engaging Young People in the Circular Economy,” the sixth international webinar organised within the STITCH project.
Taking place online on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, from 4:00 to 5:00 PM, the event will explore how educators can move beyond raising environmental awareness and help young people develop critical thinking, make conscious choices and take meaningful action.
Participation is free of charge, but prior registration is required.
Making the circular economy relevant to young people
Climate change, resource depletion, waste and unsustainable consumption are complex issues that increasingly affect young people’s understanding of their present and future.
Although access to information is essential, environmental awareness alone may not be enough to produce lasting change. Young people also need opportunities to examine their habits, understand the consequences of everyday decisions and recognise their own ability to contribute to more sustainable communities.
The circular economy offers a valuable educational framework for this process. It encourages learners to reconsider how products and materials are designed, produced, used and discarded while introducing alternatives based on reducing waste, extending product life, reusing resources and making more responsible choices.
The upcoming STITCH webinar will examine how these principles can be transformed into practical, accessible and engaging learning experiences.
Expertise from Tallinn Circular Economy Centre
The webinar will feature Anneli Roodus, Environmental Education Specialist at Tallinn Circular Economy Centre.
Anneli will introduce the main principles of the circular economy and present the development, activities, educational programmes and community impact of Tallinn Circular Economy Centre.
Drawing on her professional experience at Lasnamäe Circular Economy Centre, she will share practical examples of how complex environmental challenges can be communicated to young people in a clear, honest and engaging way.
Her contribution will demonstrate how environmental education can connect theoretical knowledge with everyday behaviour, inviting young people to reflect on consumption habits, resource use and individual responsibility.
Bringing the school perspective into the discussion
The event will also include a contribution from Anne-Liisa Antsma, who will bring the school perspective to the webinar.
Her intervention will explore how circular economy, sustainability and conscious consumption can be connected with education and incorporated into everyday work with young people.
Schools can provide a valuable environment in which learners are encouraged not only to acquire information but also to ask questions, discuss alternatives and understand the broader impact of their choices. By connecting sustainability topics with familiar situations and practical activities, educators can make environmental learning more relevant and encourage students to become active participants in change.
