On Tuesday, 15 September, the new operational headquarters of “Un’ora per Palermo” was inaugurated at Via Giuseppe Crispi 49. The network brings together 58 associations working across the Palermo area, with FICUS ETS among its founding promoters.
The new headquarters is a shared space open to associations, citizens and anyone who wishes to contribute to the development of the city. It is a place for meeting, building relationships, sharing ideas and turning participation into concrete initiatives for Palermo.
The event began with a moment dedicated to the memory of Father Pino Puglisi, a symbol of commitment to the community, legality and the promotion of a fairer society. This was followed by the ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially opening the doors of the network’s new space.
The inauguration continued with the meeting “Youth Policies in Palermo – From the Steering Committee to a Permanent Discussion Table towards the Forum”. The event focused on the role of youth policies and on the need to create stronger tools for listening, participation and co-design involving young people.
Following the institutional greetings by Councillor Leonardo Canto, the speakers included Giuseppe Vitrano, Coordinator of the activities of the Municipality of Palermo’s Youth Policies Office; Alessia Di Francesca representing FICUS ETS; Alessandro Rosselli, former President of the Provincial Students’ Council; and Fabio Punzi representing Fuori Tema.
Moderated by Manfredi Barbaro, the discussion provided an important opportunity to reflect on the needs of young people in Palermo, opportunities for participation and the importance of strengthening dialogue between institutions, associations, schools and the wider community.
One of the main topics discussed was the possibility of moving from a simple steering committee towards a permanent discussion table. Such a structure could ensure continuity in the dialogue on youth policies and support the development of a Youth Policy Forum for the city of Palermo.
The closing remarks were delivered by Fabrizio Ferrandelli, Councillor for Youth Policies of the Municipality of Palermo, who highlighted the importance of creating structured opportunities for cooperation between public institutions, associations and young people.
The evening was accompanied by live music from Tetra Kordes, making the inauguration a moment of celebration, sharing and community participation.
FICUS ETS would like to thank all the associations within the network for their presence, contribution and commitment. Special thanks go to the institutional and political representatives who attended the event, the speakers, the moderator, Tetra Kordes and everyone who took part in this important day.
The new headquarters at Via Giuseppe Crispi 49 is a space for the whole city of Palermo: an open, welcoming and active place ready to host new ideas, partnerships and associations.
