EcoHeroes: BG-P05 wins the International EcoMissions Ranking

The EcoHeroes project has reached an important milestone: all five EcoMissions have been completed in Italy, Bulgaria and Malta, and the updated final international ranking is now available.

Coordinated by FICUS ETS within the Erasmus+ programme, EcoHeroes aims to encourage adults aged 30–40 to adopt more sustainable lifestyles and become active changemakers in their communities. Through a series of practical challenges, participants were invited to reflect on their consumption habits, reduce plastic use, discover more sustainable alternatives and turn environmental awareness into concrete action.

Five missions, three countries, one shared challenge

Each participating country developed and implemented five national EcoMissions. Although the activities were adapted to the local context, they all contributed to the same overall goals: promoting environmental responsibility, encouraging conscious consumption and strengthening participants’ capacity to make sustainable choices in everyday life.

The missions addressed different aspects of sustainability, including:

  • monitoring and reflecting on personal plastic consumption;
  • identifying more responsible labels and products;
  • exploring sustainable alternatives;
  • taking part in a challenge focused on conscious shopping and consumption;
  • creating an original and creative eco-solution.

In total, the project involved 15 national EcoMissions across Italy, Bulgaria and Malta. Participants documented their activities through photographs, presentations, reflections and other evidence, creating a rich collection of experiences and practical examples.

The updated final international ranking

The international leaderboard brings together the cumulative scores obtained during all five missions. The ranking is based on the total points collected by each participant from Week 1 to Week 5.

The updated final podium is:

1st place – BG-005, Bulgaria: 585 points
2nd place – BG-006, Bulgaria: 555 points
3rd place – BG-007, Bulgaria: 540 points

Congratulations to BG-005, who achieved the highest international score and became the EcoHeroes International Winner! This result reflects strong participation, commitment and engagement throughout the complete challenge.

Special recognition also goes to BG-006 and BG-007 for achieving second and third place. We also warmly congratulate all participants from Italy, Bulgaria and Malta who completed one or more missions and contributed to the project with their ideas, reflections and sustainable actions.

More than a competition

Although the leaderboard celebrates individual achievements, the EcoMissions were designed as a learning and empowerment experience rather than simply a competition. Participants were encouraged to question their everyday habits, exchange ideas, experiment with new solutions and recognise the impact of small choices.

The activities also promoted important transversal skills, including creativity, critical thinking, responsibility, collaboration and the ability to communicate sustainable choices to others. In this way, the project connected individual behaviour with wider community challenges related to waste reduction, plastic pollution and the transition towards a circular economy.

The evidence collected during the national activities, together with the leaderboards and project materials, contributes to a shared international knowledge base that can be used by educators, organisations and adult groups interested in environmental education and sustainable lifestyles.

The journey continues

The completion of the EcoMissions marks the conclusion of Activity 1, but it is not the end of the EcoHeroes journey. The next phase of the project will focus on Activity 2 and the development of the Collaborative Manual of Alternative Materials.

Through laboratories, experimentation and biohacking-inspired activities, participants will explore sustainable and alternative materials, test creative solutions and reflect on how waste materials can be transformed into new possibilities. The aim is to combine environmental awareness, creativity and practical learning, encouraging participants to become even more active in the transition towards sustainable communities.

FICUS ETS warmly thanks all EcoHeroes from Italy, Bulgaria and Malta for their enthusiasm, creativity and commitment. The final ranking celebrates the results of the challenge, but the real achievement is the collective journey towards more responsible and sustainable ways of living.
