Dancing with STEAM at the 2026 Fête de la Science: when science meets movement

On 11 October 2026, the European project Dancing with STEAM took part in the Fête de la Science in Marseille, offering the public an original experience bringing together science, technology, dance and theatre.

At Espace Agora, on Place Villeneuve-Bargemon, Greta Sandon, Sara Chiostergi and Elena Cocci presented the project’s aims and methodology. Dancing with STEAM is coordinated by the French company Cie Essevesse in partnership with FICUS ETS.

Showcasing young people’s creative process

The event opened with an introduction to the project, followed by a video about the creative process developed with young people from La Maison de l’Apprenti in Marseille.

Through movement, theatre and artistic practices, participants explored different scientific concepts and gradually transformed their experiments into collective creative ideas. The video offered the audience a glimpse into this process and showed how ideas can take shape through movement and collaboration.

Exploring science through the body

After the presentation, the speakers invited the audience to join an interactive workshop inspired by the five Dancing with STEAM educational modules. The activities combined movement, observation, imagination and interaction, demonstrating how scientific and mathematical concepts, alongside ethical questions related to technology, can be explored through participatory and interdisciplinary approaches.

The workshop ended with a collective performance, making the audience active participants in the artistic and scientific experience.

An engaging, participatory experience

The audience followed the event with interest and took part in the activities. The closing discussion brought positive feedback on both the experience and the project’s methodology, which some attendees described as “innovative”.

Taking part in the Fête de la Science provided another opportunity to share the Dancing with STEAM methodology with a wider audience. The project brings artistic practices together with STEAM disciplines — Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics — to explore new ways of learning and understanding the world, while encouraging young people to take an active role.

Science is discovered not only in books and laboratories: it can also be experienced, felt and shared through movement.
