The project “Dancing with STEAM” (Project number: 2025-1-FR02-KA210-YOU-000349743), co-funded by the Erasmus+ KA210-YOU – Small-scale Partnerships in Youth programme, has officially launched its local workshops in Italy, involving young participants from Sicily in an innovative educational journey combining science, creativity, movement, dance and theatre.
Following the international study visit held in Marseille, where youth worker/trice and facilitators/trice from the partner organisations collaboratively developed and tested embodied STEAM methodologies, the project has now entered the local implementation phase. The activities aim to transfer the approaches developed at international level directly into local youth work contexts, creating accessible and engaging learning opportunities for young people.
The first local workshop took place on Saturday, May 9, and marked the beginning of a series of educational and creative sessions that will continue over the coming months. Around 60 young participants will be involved in the activities organised in Sicily.
The project promotes an interdisciplinary approach to STEAM education by connecting scientific concepts with movement-based learning, theatre practices, dance exploration and non-formal education methodologies. Instead of approaching science only through theory, participants are encouraged to experience scientific principles through practical experimentation, artistic expression and embodied learning.
During the first workshops, participants explored several themes connected to biology, physics and chemistry through collaborative and experiential activities.
One of the sessions focused on safety, trust and group synchronisation through movement and co-regulation exercises inspired by neuroscience and embodied awareness. Participants explored how rhythm, attention and shared movement can influence communication, connection and group dynamics.
Another workshop introduced concepts related to force, gravity, acceleration and resistance through embodied physics activities. Through movement exploration, partner exercises and creative tasks, participants experienced how force, momentum and balance can be understood directly through the body.
The activities also explored transformation, dynamic equilibrium and reversible chemical reactions through creative experiments and movement-based exploration inspired by chemistry. Scientific observation, experimentation and artistic expression were combined to help participants better understand how systems react, transform and rebalance.
The workshops are designed not only to strengthen STEAM competences, but also to support creativity, teamwork, self-expression, critical thinking and participation through inclusive and non-formal learning approaches.
The local activities will continue in the coming months with new workshops, collaborative experiences and creative learning paths dedicated to young people in Sicily.
