On November 6, 2025, the STITCH – Sustainability through Innovation, Training, Creativity & STEAM Horizons project officially began its journey with an online Pre Kick-Off Meeting bringing together seven European partners.
Co-funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Programme, STITCH aims to promote sustainability in the textile and fashion world through creative, digital, and STEAM-based learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).
Coordinated by the University of Palermo (Italy), the project unites schools, universities, and innovation organizations from Italy, Greece, Spain, Estonia, Turkey, and Norway — all sharing one goal: to inspire young people to imagine a more sustainable and creative future.
A collaborative and inspiring start
The meeting was opened by Prof. Dominique Persano Adorno from the University of Palermo, who welcomed everyone and emphasized the power of teamwork and creativity in education. She also celebrated the project’s outstanding evaluation score (98/100) from the Italian National Agency — a great sign of confidence in its potential!
Each partner then introduced their team and role in the project:

- Yildiz Technical University (Turkey) – Quality and Innovation in Education
- Smart Innovation Norway (Norway) – Sustainability and Teacher Training
- Institut Itaca (Spain) – Environmental Awareness and Student Engagement
- Tallinna Kesklinna Vene Gümnaasium (Estonia) – Digital Education and Leadership
- Anatolia College (Greece) – Hands-on STEAM Learning
- FICUS ETS (Italy) – Communication and Dissemination
What’s STITCH about?
STITCH wants to weave sustainability into school life — helping teachers and students (ages 11–14) learn how creativity, science, and technology can work together for a greener planet.
Over the next 30 months (Oct 2025 – Mar 2028), the project will create:
- A Teacher Training Resource Hub
- Student Learning Modules focused on green and digital skills
- A Sustainability Leaders Programme for young ambassadors across Europe
During the meeting, partners discussed how to collaborate effectively, shared ideas for tools and resources, and set the stage for the in-person Kick-Off Meeting in Palermo, where the project will officially take off.
Looking ahead
The meeting ended on a high note of enthusiasm and shared purpose.
Prof. Persano Adorno summed it up perfectly:
“STITCH will be a model of creativity-driven sustainability education, inspiring both students and teachers across Europe.”
The team now looks forward to meeting in Palermo — ready to turn ideas into action and make sustainability part of everyday learning.
